Local Meat Markets vs. Big Box Stores

When it comes to buying meat, there are usually two different types of people. Some people have always shopped at a meat market. Perhaps their parents always visited a meat market or hunted for their meat themselves. The other type of person has always visited the grocery store, thinks the thought of a meat market is enticing, but doesn’t fully understand the difference. There is nothing wrong with either type of person. But, we would love to share with those who have never visited a meat market, a few pieces of information.

Healthier Lifestyle
Knowing where your meat comes from and how it is raised leads to a healthier lifestyle. Getting to know your local farmers and butchers and knowing their practices will ensure that you are buying and consuming foods that are free from added hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and/or chemicals. At Mike’s Meat Market, the meat is all fresh. Never frozen!

Helps local Economy
Buying your meats from your local meat market keeps your money in your community. Shopping local keeps 4 times the money in your community’s economy compared to shopping at chains.

Keeps Local Families in Business
Buying from your local farmers and butchers helps keep families in business. There are less and less small family run stores, the backbone of what built America. Without your support we are more likely to end up with factory processed and frozen meats.

Greater Appreciation
Knowing where your food comes from and the work that goes into producing it gives you a greater appreciation. This day in age we can get lost in the ease of our food system and take it for granted.

Save you money
Believe it or not buying meat from local and buying in bulk can save you money. At Mike’s Meat Market, we are all about buying more while saving more. Set a menu and budget and talk with us. If you have the space, buying a lot of meat at one time will significantly chop down the price per pound.
